i think another disadvantage is that you really cant "sell" the chip later on if you decide to do so

oh for sure DPP has a stealth advantage over an actual chip. no argument there.

the actual ship would for sure be more apparent but i think if a dealership is at the point of examining an ECU then it wouldn't really matter whether it was modified/reprogrammed via a chip or DPP, they would find out about it either way, it would just be a matter of time...

Though the GIAC IBE is nice for that sort of thing

Not that I'm condoning fooling dealers, but when it's set to 'stock', the IBE physically reconnects the factory chip, making it absolutely undetectable without physically opening the ECU. Take the remote with you, and even a knowledgeable dealer/thief/whatever cannot switch it back.
