Default Aftermarket Amplifier Installation

I'm installing a Audiobahn 300watt (@ 4ohm) x 4 amp to some MB Quart Reference series speakers for my 1996 A4. How do i safely get the chunky power cord for the amp through my firewall!?!? Everything is so sealed up! Has anyone done it? Please email me or post if you have done it or know how to

I meat to say this before: Under the steering wheel, near the fuse panel is the ignition wire. Its about an 8 guage wire. Do you think i can attach the amp power there?

Default if its the ignition, then you can't

you need a wire that's constantly powered for the amp power wire. you can attach a remote turn-on wire to the ignition wire, though

i'd suggest hooking the amp's power wire up directly to the battery and then routing it through the hole in the firewall under the ecu/behind the pedals (look around there...there's a rubber stopper in it, its hard to miss)

There is place to drill on passenger side near battery compartment. Ive done two at Best buy and there is easy spot to get to next to battery compartment. You will need a Unibit or big drill bit (you can use 1/4" and make it bigger as needed). There is nothing to hit as you drill thru but always check to make sure after you drill a pilot hole.

Default You have a couple options

There is a power distribution block located near the dead-pedal. It has 3 bolts and numerous wires attached. Judging by the size of your amp, you'd probably be ok running 8 guage wire from the power distribution block.

If you go with larger guage wire, you should run it directly from the battery. If you remove the knee bolster on the driver's side and look above the pedals, you'll find a rubber grommet that has three circular indentations. Just cut one of these out and thread the wire through there. This location worked for my 1/0 guage...so I'm sure you can get it to work for you.

good luck

Default dude don't drill....

seriously, look around down in the drivers side footwell, there are already holes in the firewall with rubber stoppers in them...all you have to do is take a knife and poke a hole in the stopper and you've got a grommet. this way, should you want to sell the car and take out the stereo, you don't have any extra holes in the firewall
