Is first scheduled change for them at 8000km or 16000km?
It seems AoA made a marketing decision to cut warranty support costs, either that or "summersr" has different break-in oil than later production cars which is unlikely.
I'm looking for a sale on Mobil 1 0W-30. Only 800 miles to go for someone to convince me changing at 5k is a bad idea.

I think his point was that some break-in has already occurred when the car leaves the factory. The rough machining of the moving parts is accomplished in that 45 minute run, then the oil is drained and replaced with break-in oil again. Because any heavy debris will already have been flushed out in that first run, the second fill of break-in oil can, and should, last the recommended 10K.
Make sense? I buy it. My car is going until 10K before a change. Like my saleswoman so eloquently put it when I asked her opinion, "Hey, it's a lease, what do you care?" <shakes head>

in either the service manual or the owner's manual. I wouldn't be suprised if that was an oversight in the manuals that came with early production run cars. Mine is a 09/01 production date and doesn't mention 5K service anywhere.
