Default Ahh yes, another GIAC question: Octane

So from all my posting and research and bugging the hell out my very helpful tuner, more questions formulated in my head.

1) Since right now there is only a flash with one program, does that mean if I run low on gas and I am in some po-dunk town with only 89 or less octane, am I screwed? (This acutally happened to someone i know with the APR program but obviously he was able to switch back to "stock" mode and put in the crap fuel)

2) All this talk about the dealer saving our "stock" program. So when the hand held switch comes out, do I have to drive my a** back to the tuner (4 hours away) to get the unit to work with my car to my liking/setting?

If this is the case, then I outta hold out longer before wasting some trips, right? Uhhggg

Default Some comments on #1....

1) If your otance is too low, the ECU will retard spark and you'll notice some performance drop, but nothing drastic. You could add enough fuel to get you where you can refill with 93. Another backup is to keep a bottle of octane boost in your trunk for just such an emergency.

2) I'm not familiar enough with GIAC to offer a comment on #2.

Default Thanks, good point on #1,

now on #2 I need some input if I should reschedule my road trip. I still at least want a "stock" mode setting for a couple reasons (yes I understand that the dealer can still easily find the software flash).

Default On #2

if you think you are going to need your stock software reflashed onto your ecu before the handheld comes out then i would wait. But i dont know why you would want to switch back to stock in the month until it comes out.

I just need clarification that when the handheld comes out, do I still need to go back to the installer/dealer/tuner for it to work with my car. That's where I don't want to have to make another trip.

In best case scenario, I just buy the handheld switch and it works (but that sounds too easy).
