Air Filter for 1.8T
I am new to "tuning" my car. I have a '02 1.8T and am thinking about making some changes. I had a '98 2.8 which I did nothing with. I hear you can get a new air filter and this will increase HP without investing a lot of dollars. Is this true and if so what kind and how much do they cost? Does this affect warrenty? Thanks for any input.

First. Be careful about oiled filters. Too much oil can kill the MAF.
It has been known that the parts dept can run out of MAFs, and you will be without a car for a week or two.
Second. Don't use a cone in the engine bay unless you can put it in the stock air box. Outside air is more dense than hot engine air - so you get more oxygen molecules and more power.

Re: Air Filter for 1.8T
I have a K&N replacement air filter installed. It costed me 50$ and dynotesting showed 4HP increase. Small investment - small gain. DO NOT USE cone filter - it will make car more noisy, and may degrade the performance when installed without the heat shield. APR - one of the most respectable Audi tuners - says:" After extensive testing APR has found that contrary to popular belief, Audi and Volkswagen did a very good job of designing the factory airbox in your car. Because of this, APR recommends just a high-flow, factory-replacement K&N air filter for your car." Visit: www.goapr.com
