Default alarm acting up/down

hello there,

I have searched all over this and the other forums. Seems like people have similar, but different issues and as I debug this one, I am chasing my tail. I would love your help!!!

A couple weeks ago the alarm didn’t chirm when I armed the car and the door indicator stayed solid for the 30 seconds. Manual says – motion sensor is bad. So I plugged in a new motion sensor. No luck, issue persists. Related, if I arm the car and wait the 30 seconds until the door indicator starts flashing (alarmed actually armed), then open a door, the lights do flash – just no horn.

Using the vagcom, I ran a couple error code reports on the comfort control module. 13 DTCs persist… please see below please. I have looked them all up individually… not helping solve the mystery.

The horn is obviously not working since it makes no noise.

01616… how does one test the signal wire???

The last 8 all refer to alarms being triggered… nothing was triggered between the error code clear and this report.

As for 01705, is that related?? Thoughts? I am guessing E48 switch in the driver’s door is shorting out. ???

So, the question – any ideas on what is going on! I have heard others with similar – yet always slightly different – issues talk about the batteries in the horn.

I appreciate your help in advance.

First couple of codes complain about the alarm horn. That module is in the trunk underneath the lining and it's not cheap. I just changed mine (different issue, leaky battery). Maybe that's one of the problems.

I'm assuming you cleared these codes and they all come back. Hard to believe that you changed the interior sensor and got back the same code (01616).

Default Resolved

just to provide a follow up should anyone find this thread down the road:

I replaced the horn with a new updated part; solved it all 100%. It was the battery acid leak issue in the old horn. Seems this issue has many differant forms, but one simpl quick fix.

I did buy the part (from a B7 S4) used from a online source for used VW/Audi parts.

Simple, with the code clearing and lots of cleaning along the way, 1.5 hours of work. Avant does require pulling a lot of parts including the bose amp/speaker set.
