Why the hell would you spend 800 bucks plus time/labor/install cost on this? I don't get. A waste of money I think. Here is what I do on my custom PC to utilize my stock 6 disc changer: Burn using Nero 5.5 and download mp3s via Kazaa Lite. It's easy to convert mp3 to wav files and the quality is generally very good. I usually make mixes, but also get full albums. 80 minute CD-Rs cost 5-10 each when you buy in bulk on sale locally (I use Maxell). My 40 speed Lite-On CD-RW burner takes 3.5 minutes to burn a 80 minute audio disc. You can order that on pricewatch.com for less than 50 bucks now. A decent 300 disc holder for the car costs less than 20 bucks. If the phatbox was a couple hundred bucks then I'd understand.

I agree it's expensive though. I have the iPod and that works just fine for me. I have the 20 gig and i only have 3.5 gigs of music on it. I also use it as a hardrive to transfer file from home to office. Cost me $500 for the ipod, $90 for blitz, $25 for Monster iCable and did the install myself. To me the $600+ was totally worth it. All my music on one tiny hardrive i can take anywhere. No time spent burning cd's, no annoying jewel cases or cd organizers to flip thru and juggle while driving.....and you can make playlists of your current favorite songs, you can listen to entire albums, you can listen to every song by just one artist, you need to buy one. Everybody needs to buy one.

selection at their finger tips...I'd rather be able to select from a few thousand songs at the hit of a finger...than have to shuffle through my cd wallet looking for that damn cd...

It's for the convenience! I don't want to fumble around with CDs, burn them, load them into the changer, have an occasional error (maybe), etc.
With the PhatBox, you can create playlists automatically by album, artists, and genres and Sync newer MP3s into a collection at the touch of a button. Just one click! Simplicity rules, and besides the product is cool!
In my case, I have over 15 Gigs worth of MP3s which I have ripped from CDs that I have acquired over the last 15 years. Thanks to my MP3s, my CDs are now collecting dust in the attic.
Over time, price will become cheaper and comparable to an iPod. If people are willing to spend 1000s on wheels, chips, a/v and performance products, why not tag on about $700-$800?
