I rip in 256Kbps.
I don't burn CDs. I keep my MP3s on my computer and listen to CDs in the car and stereo. The problem with MP3s is not that they sound like crap. They sound great freshly ripped. It's once you convert it back to wav and file sharing that it distorts the quality.
Dialup isn't helping my cause either
No DSL or Cable available. I could spend $80 a month for satellite, but at 400KBPS, I'll wait.
I'm set up for DVD-A, but not ready to start replacing my entire CD collection especially since SACD and DVD-A are both extremely limited.

You can get an LCD screen off ebay cheap, even like a 12inch
just make a shrouding for it. Cable is cheap. If you have an old laptop that can do. You just need software that will power it down and up correctly when the car is turned on and off. I know there are places that will make mobile pcs too, and they are relatively cheap. With the price of hard drives and dvd players a lot is viable for under 1000 dollars.

that's interesting! i have a kenwood 8" up front which I am very happy with, and it has several A/V ins/outs which I am not yet using. i'll make some calls and find out what can be done.
