Almost wrecked my blacked beauty yesterday. I owe it to Audi's Quattro for saving lives...
Yesterday about noon, in the pouring rain, my friend and I were traveling south on the Garden State Parkway (mile marker 11) deep south NJ. I was cruising in the far right lane about 60mph and a pick-me-up truck in the middle lane, which was stopped b/c of a traffic light, pulls across my lane 100ft in front of me. The truck wasn't changing lanes and start driving, they just pulled across barricading the lane. I slammed on my breaks and was no where near stopping, swerved right to avoid t-boning the truck sending me into the grass narrowly missing a traffic light pole and one of those huge utility boxes. I probably traveled 40 ft. into the grass before completely stopping.
Luckily no one was hurt and my car wasn't damaged. I owe it to Quattro that I never lost control of my car and was able to maneuver to avoid hitting the truck, traffic light and utility box. Needless to say I was extremely shook up. Apparently the lady driving the truck had been rear ended at the light and just pulled across a lane on a major highway to get to the shoulder to assess the damage. She almost caused a serious accident, which would have most likley left the engine block on my friend and my legs. SHE IS AN IDIOT.

I love A4s, too, but fortunately, many new cars today have the same alphabet-soup of safety nannies.
I had a car turn left in front of me during a pouring rain, and missed the offending Camaro by about 4 inches. The car: Geo Prizm. The safety system: ABS.
Not to take away from the capabilities of the beloved A4 - it's saved my butt, too. But more cars should be able to do the same. I wish the same could be said for drivers! Case in point...

Glad you are OK! That would have raised the blood prssure a few notches!
To the rest of the group... Quattro is only felt during acceleration, correct? Braking and swerving rely on the ESP...

For the most part, but IMHO, quattro does also improve maneuverability under power.
However, when braking or coasting, quattro's effect is probably only limited to engine braking (as that also occurs on all 4 wheels).
But I'll take it.
