Default Aloha! New B6 owner here... Honolulu, HI

Aloha everyone,

With gas prices rising to no end, I knew it was time for me to sell my Tahoe and go back to an Audi. After many weeks of searching, I finally found the perfect A4. Not an easy task when you're living on an island with a limited supply of high-quality "pre-owned" vehicles.

I've been a fan of this site since 1996... when it was called Jet's A4 pages. I was a daily visitor then and contributed my fair share when I could. Now I'm back, many years later, with my "new" pre-owned B6. That being said, I'm looking forward to contributing to the site and being a part of the Audiworld "Ohana."

Default First question...

I've already got my first question for the B6 community. This one pertains to the programming of the security system key fob.

When I purchased the car two days ago, I was given two key fobs. One was working, the other was not. I figured all that needed to be done was a battery change. However, after changing out the batteries (on both), now neither will work (buttons on key fobs that is). Keep in mind that these are two original keys and key fobs that came with the vehicle (not acquired post-purchase from eBay).

After two hours of searching this forum and trying every possible method posted online (including posts on Audizine), I've still been unable to get my key fobs to work.

Some key facts to consider:
My car has the immobilizer option.
My car will start and run continuously (so I know that keys and ignition work)
My car is a 2004 A4 B6 1.8T (if that makes any difference)
I've tried the key in ignition, lock the car from outside, press unlock button method... to no avail.
I've tried the key in ignition, other key in trunk... etc... to no avail.

Any specific instructions for this particular model/vehicle?

Mahalo in advance!

Default So the car runs on the key that doesnt lock right?

If so...insert the key into the ignition, turn it on the on position and press the lock/unlock button. It should work....

Default Yes. The car runs fine using either key. It's just that...

...the two security system fobs (all three buttons) that accompany both keys are inoperable. No response from any button before, during, or after attempting any of the methods mentioned in my earlier post. However, I haven't tried your procedure yet. I'll give this a try today and give you all an update. Man, I hope this works.

Default Jet's A4 pages! damn you are old school. You remember a4.org?...

I've been around since 2000. Forum has changed quite a bit but this particular Audi forum remains the most civilized/helpful car message board I've ever taken part in. Welcome back!

Default Hell yeah I'm old school!

Of course I remember a4.org. I remember the transition. It was a big deal from what I remember. It was an exciting time for the Jason's "website" and for the growing Audi online community. It was a very special time because there were so few of us diehard Audi fans at the time. Now look how far we've all come.

Anyway, mahalo for the warm welcome!

Make sure the battery isn't upside down as well if you continue to have problems.

Default Old School? You last vehicle was a 2007 "Chevy" Tahoe....

Before that 2003 GMC Yukon Denali XL

and then a 2001 Audi A4 1.8TQM...

Your AudiWorld account number is brand new!

How's all that equate to "Old School?"

Well not many even remember Jet's page and a4.org.
