Default can you hear the pump running?
if not check the fuse or pump may be bad. If you can, open the hood and see if you have washer fluid that looks to have been sprayed all over. On my car (not an A4) the tube going to the washers became loose. All the fluid would just spray all over the engine compartment.

Check the fuse...I think it's #37.

Dealer told me early B6s had pump issues, my 02 replaced twice and it was the fuse

on my car, the black plastic hose that run along the hood cracked and leaked all the fluid out
