I just want to know what so good about quattro..
I know Its safe in bad weather and all that..
that means all the frontwheel drive cars are not safe or what?..even though i will be mostly driving in upstate ny area(lots of snow), I think 1.8T CVT will be great for me.. I just like the look of A4, also fun to drive(faster than Q) financially cheaper,.. no necessity of allwheel drive....I was gonna buy jetta 1.8T..but I want more luxury looking so...what do u all think?..am I making good choice here?

96-01 FWD A4's have beam rear axle. Use to be
a good reason to go for quattro (they have multi link independent rear suspension, like all 02's).
I'm convinced though, once you've had quattro you can't go back.

"spirited" driving.
Not to mention quicker, lighter and more fuel efficient.
Of course Quattro has its uses and advantages (and that nice badge

make sure you research the possible limits of CVT.
It's new technology and I don't think anyone really knows for sure, what the limits of this tranny are.
Some say it shouldn't be chipped beyond 230 lb-ft. of torque, and will therefore need special detuned chips. Others will likely balk at this and buy the full powered chip versions. Only time will tell I guess.
Many Tiptronic owners have chipped beyond their recommended torque limits, in the past, without any problems, so perhaps the same can be said for CVT.
Of course, if you're not going to chip, it matters not :-)

...just cuts the power. It's not supposed to be very smooth - just goes limp. While time will tell, I think it deserves (needs) it's own special chip anyway to take advantage of how the it plays the gear ratio.

The "shifts" in tiptronic mode were very fast and the "gears" were well spaced. In auto mode, it was pretty good about getting the right ratio for fast power, and the car certainly felt quick compared to mine. I think you're making a good choice, if you feel you don't need the AWD. You'll still have ESP at least.
