Default Anyone able to remove rear rotor on a 1.8t w/o removing carrier?

I was trying to change my rear rotors this weekend on my 05 1.8t (245mm rotors) and I couldn't get the damn carrier bolts loose. First one I tried (the top, easier one) started to strip so I gave up. I searched here and some have said that the rotor can slide out without removing the carrier.

Can anyone confirm that this is possible?

Default well if you can loosen the top & remove bottom bolt it may be possible

you really need a stubby 8mm & 3/8" breaker bar to bust them loose.

Default 2nd that, I managed to remove mine using a cut off 8mm bit...

and a breaker bar with extension. I bloodied my knuckles on the wheel well liner when they finally broke.
I tried but never managed to remove the rotor without removing the carrier.

Rear calipers are pretty high maintenance. Better to take them off to properly service it.

Default I could on my A6.. (255mm rotors) I removed the caliper from the carrier and...

there was enough room to wiggle it out.
Pull the far side (away from the carrier) out first, then it comes out of the carrier.

Default Also, to clarify, the rotor can come off w/one caliper bolt out, swinging it away. Are you turning it

the right direction? It's easy to confuse when it's facing toward you.

Default Not possible on the 1.8t...

The carrier bracket must come off. In order to do this, you'll have to modify a 8mm hex socket, or remove the shock bolt.

Default There's actually an Audi-specific tool for the rear caliper carrier bolts

<ul><li><a href="http://tools.audiusa.com">Navigate to Online Catalog and search for T40027</a></li></ul>
