Anyone else hear this sound?
I've noticed that with the A/C on and driving at very low speeds, (just around 1500rpm) I hear a constant low frequency rubbing sound coming from the front..You can also almost feel a bit of the vibration in the steering wheel and on the gas pedal..
Took it to the dealer, and they say its normal..Just doesn't seem right...Sound disappears when A/C is switched off.
Any thoughts?

Yes
I have EXACTLY the same sound/vibration, do you have the 3.0 or the 1.8T? Apparently the hydraulic pump for the steering is a bit lightweight for the 3.0, using the aircon for some reason puts more strain on it.

Re: Anyone else hear this sound?
what about like 2.2-2.6k rpm... but not speed dependent... just in the higher gears... the higher the gear the more noticble??? thats what i get...

Re: Yes
hmm..interesting..
I've also got the 3.0..Also, it looks like its independent of the gear i'm in, as long as RPMs are just around 1500..very annoying
I took the service manager out for a spin in a demo model, and it suffered from the same problem..therefore, its "normal operation"

I got the same response from the dealer as Nefilim. They say it's something with the power steering. I'm going back to dealer today for a couple of things and will find out if it's been addressed by Audi yet.

I have the sound and got it looked at...
I have had the same response from my dealer as all of you. Normal - maybe but it should not be happening. I am going to mention it again at my 10K service and if they say that there is nothing they can do I may go further and bring it up with AOA. It is very annoying. I also have a 3.0 and have a CVT. The CVT likes to stay at those RPMS when cruising between 35-45 so you are there often if you don't do highway driving.

yup, w/6-speed too. Sounds like steering assist or something. only w/the a/c on & only at low speeds & around corners. Glad to know it's just a built-in factory benefit I guess & not just mine!
