I just got the audi cd changer cable in today, got it all wired up, plugged the phatbox in, and with the volume all the way down there's an annoying HUMMMMMMM sound, fairly loud.
I've checked over the wiring at least 5 times, nothing appears to be out of place, and the hum goes away if you unplug the data cable from the back of the Pbox, so I'm wondering if mine isn't defective :-\
the only oddities in the harness are the violet wire not hooked up to anything, and the "RS" wire on audi's diagram that isn't referenced.

did you read the question? LOL
thanks for the input. I notice mine isn't terribly loud either. And that digitized voice is awful, I agree.
edit: upgrade the firmware, you'll get a female voice for the recorded parts, like "browsing artist" and a male voice for the parts it reads to you. Seems a little better, but didn't solve my problem. Guess I'll call PN support.

I don't believe those pinout are correct, unless I'm on crack, I've traced out the round audi connector using a diagram found here, and for example pin 10 is the switched 12v, not a ground.
if I had miswired this, I'd have a direct short and more problems on my hands than a little buzzing, and the phatbox is obviously grounded (it tests OK as well)
so something is up, the audi OE changer cable instructions connect the long brown wire to pin 10, which if those are correct is a ground and wouldn't work. ugh. My head hurts.

phatbox howto

Pin 10 is ground on my radio it is possible your phatbox could be grounded through the speaker or the cd ground pin 18 the diagram looks like the sticker on the back of my radio if all nine wires are not used you will have problems

it's an RNS-D unit, I guess I hadn't considered that, but on the audi supplied directions for the cable, the pinouts for both are identical, I'm really not sure why they draw both other than the lack of harness IV

basically what happened is I accidently popped the yellow pin in the brown/black spot, and couldn't get it out again, so I just figured at the end of the cable I'd cut and jumper them yellow to brown and brown to yellow, well, that something happens mid cable with the two browns and I had the yellow to the wrong brown, which is why I thought that pinout diagram was wrong, I had the +12 switched (yellow) to the ground (brown).. dumb mistake, that's what I get for taking a shortcut.
I kept tracing the wiring through the male connector to the pins at the HU and that's why I thought the ground to pin 10 was off, so really the thing wasn't completely grounded.
