I'm just wondering what most people do with a modded car.
Do people usually sell the parts and return the car to stock or do you just sell the car as is, completely modded.
Which one would give you more money in the end? Is it hard to sell a modded car? To what extent are mods considered not drastic? etc...
Thanks for any help.

I had a lightly modded Volvo(cat-back, swaybars, shocks/springs, strut tower brace, E-Codes, brakes, etc). If you want to sell it to a dealer, they would want it in stock form. To some people, they say modded cars have less value than stock cars because its doesn't have its original parts. Some see that modded cars value more, just depending on who are dealing with. I ended up ebaying cause I have been dealing with idiots that can't decide whether they want to buy it or not. On top of that my new car(A4) was on its way from the port. Thats my story...

you would never recoup the cost of the mods by selling it as a package deal, especially to the average car buyer who places little to no value on what has been done.
you would probably make off better (financially speaking) parting the aftermarket toys out and returning the car (as close as possible) to stock.
Is it harder to sell? probably not-- it would be dependant on the degree of modding done-- but you would be hard pressed to make up for the mods in the sale.

in my case, I made out like a bandit. I sold my civic for $20,000. Book value on it was like $12k, and I had about $7k in mods done to it. Actually, more like $7k retail, although I paid cost for most of my mods, so I made out very well, because the kid I sold to wanted a modded car. Thats a civic though, the enthusiast crowd for audi's isn't nearly as big...and most kids that are into modding don't have audi money, so it would probably be better to sell an a4 stock.

...with a Neuspeed chip, spoiler, wheels. I definitely had some second thoughts due to warranty issues. Thus far, it hasn't come back to haunt me, but I occasionally worry. Also, the first owner sold me the car for almost 25% less than he bought it for (excluding the cost of his mods), and that price may have been partly due to mods being on the car.
