Default Neuspeed chips are only $300-350 w/ install not that much more

...and you will notice a difference from stock.

Default if it's a stage 1 upgrade you won't be seeing much of a improvement

in your 0-60 times but with some exhausts and a dv, you might be able to shave about 1-1.5 secs off.
on my setup my 0-62 is about 7.6s now.

Default Need to justify the $499.....

It TRANSFORMS the car from a under-powered, sluggish car to a spirited-(more)-fun-to-drive car. The HP and TQ gains are INSANE for the $. What other mod for $500 can yield such impressive gains. People with normally aspirated cars spend $500 to gain 10 HP.

If you still need to be convinced, drive a cipped car. You'll have a chip a few days later! :-)

Default Keep in mind that you have a CVT - chip has lower torque than non-CVT

Overall, I agree with your assessment, except that I felt a BIG difference with a Stage 1 chip on my '98 1.8T. BIG difference.

Default both the standard tiptronic AND the multitronic are rated at 230lb/ft max

so they should both have the same or similar chip power levels.
