Default ARGH - Driving into covered parking with a roof rack bike rack = BAD......ARGH!!!!!!

Ok, so I win the dumbass of the week award - no competition. Put the roof rack on my car for the first time in 4 years....after 8 hours of driving, I forogt about it and I pulled into covered parking and FVCKED up my car. Though I felt sick all afternoon yesterday - I am making the best of it as not to ruin my vacation.

I suck @ life sometimes. Damage is in 3 places - 1 dent & gouge, 1 dent and 1 more gouge.

Ok, so how much am I gonna need to shell out to get her fixed. The car is 4 years old, so I don't need her to be perfect, but I need to fix as the gouges are down to bare metal and will rust. I am a moron..... :-(

#1 - Dent and gouge - same damage, 2 different views:

Default You must be taken away and summarily shot. ....

J/K! Actually, I would think that this happens a lot more often than it seems. You have my sympathy regardless.

Default Yeah, I guessed between $1500 & $2000......

could I go through insurance or would that not be worth it. I have a $500 deductible......but my rates would increase, right?

Default You can ask the Ins Co, if this would be a collision claim or comprehensive. ..

Comprehensive claims won't raise your rates.

Default used to see that all the time in Hs when I worked at a bike shop..

And then later at a VW dealer.. sometimes the same person twice when I was working at both places...

I put a picture up on the carport at my parents house to remind me before pulling in...

Default Yes, but not a "traffic collision", so it may not raise the rates the same if

any?

Default There are differences state to state... but in general a collision loss ,

whether hitting an object, another car etc.. makes no difference as far as possible increase in rates. Normally the cutoff is 1000 paid.. so in theory if the claim is 1499, the ded. 500 and the company pays 999, there is no increase other than loosing claim free discounts if they are already there. But, insurance regulations differ from state to state so the effect can be different and also depends on history. Best for Larry to call his company/agent and find out. But... it is collision.
