Default Hmm ... I've driven my car for 40,000 miles since buying it, and haven't taped it once

Why would I bother for a trip < 1000 miles?

Rocks will chip your car, the day after you remove the tape. What would be the point?

You write: "but I would assume people still use this tape for long trips."

Why? Short trips, i.e. going around town with construction, debris, gravel, etc, is way more likely to harm your car than smooth sailing down an open interstate ... I would think?

Default the tape won't prevent damage from a sizable rock. Best get a OEM bra...

and remove it once you reach your destination.

Default i would just get the oem bra for the trip.

it will give much more protection than the tape, and it won't look as goofy.
