Why would I bother for a trip < 1000 miles?
Rocks will chip your car, the day after you remove the tape. What would be the point?
You write: "but I would assume people still use this tape for long trips."
Why? Short trips, i.e. going around town with construction, debris, gravel, etc, is way more likely to harm your car than smooth sailing down an open interstate ... I would think?
