I came across this from a local seller of Motul; their "8100 X-Cess SAE 5W-40 100% Synthetic Oil". I hope this makes you happy. (Also of interest is there Gear 300 tranny fluid).
<img src="http://www.essexparts.com/images/new_products/Pro-S-5W-40.jpg">
I'm considering using the FUCHS Silkolene Pro S 5W-40 though (expensive bugger; $48.84 for 5l container.). I talked with Essex parts and they haven't been carrying it very long, so not many US dealers yet. Have to order from them and ship East to West (damn S/H charges). (The FUCHS Silktran SYN 5 Gear Oil looks good too).

Pentosin is available from <a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=1.8T&model=B6%20 A4&submodel=Quattro&category=Maintenance&subcatego ry=Engine">ECS</a> and not too expensive ($27.95 for 5l).
<u>So here's my "New Years Oil Resolution" list;</u>
<i>Fuchs Silkolene Pro S 5W-40
Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40
Pentosin Pentosynth 5W-40
Lubro Moly Voll-Synthese SAE 5W-40
Red Line Oil 5W-40
Kendall GT-1 Full Synth 5W-40
Castrol Syntec GC/SLX 0W-30 "German Made"
Castrol Syntec SLX 5W-40 "Made In Belgium"
</i>

You can buy Saab Synth oil with the same specs at the dealer for cheap, an Elf produkt! BMW has the Castrol Softec TXT and Mercedes does the Mobil 1 0w-40 (I think) Those "boutique oils" Euro oils like Motul and Pentosynth and Silkolene will seem less exotic over time as dealers stock good stuff like VW TDI Beligum Syntec, but maybe people are catching on, my WalMart is DEVOID of M1 0w-40. You know me, in the end *I* want a good otc oil that is cheap as I maintain several car out of my pocket. The rigourous 6 month oci is my new kick, just adjust the oil quality that you buy for the ~approximate~ miles driven in 6 months. Easy scheduling and no more counting miles wondering which number is perfect for an oci, just do it at a convenient date like state inspection and 6 months later. I just used the Belgium Castrol 5w-40 yesterday, my woman's car would not crank at 0 degrees. I had just changes the oil to some 10w-30 HM, but it was way too thick and I mixed a bunch of oils together to rid the garage of them. The pushstart downhill was tough to get the engine to spin, lesson learned. I got the B-Syntec otc for $4.89. I started fine and ran exceptional today. I will use it too in summer, HT/HS of 4.5, it only takes a 3.5 for ACEA A3.

and the slightly different 505.01-spec RS6 oil
G052167A2 : Castrol 505.01 5W40
A phone call to the parts dept will confirm the stock of this oil that is made to VW Audi specs. Should be $6 or maybe $8 for the 505.01 spec. Here is a link with info, much more is available as this is the oil made for your car.
PS I got mine a a local Speed Shop, this oil is now widely distributed.<ul><li><a href="http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=004455#000000"> VW-Spec Belgium Syntec 5w-40 now in the US!</a></li></ul>

so I guess they could get away with anything as there are no other options. Maybe the fact that they are also dealers for Porsche, Land Rover and Ferrari has something to do with it.
Anyway, I guess you guys are right to claim similar care for your cars...I mean Audis are not cheap POS that you can buy in the supermarket...
