Question from a dummie here. I plan to change the gearbox-oil in my 2008 Audi A6 Multitronic. I had my gearbox replaced with a total new one at 156Tkm (ensurance), now the car have gone 218Tkm. I have ordered the 3357 tool. I would very much like to avoid to use the vag-tool, this is expensive to buy, difficult for me as a dummie to use, and also reguires abonnements. So I think to go for the sollution of using a thermometer. to check the temperature between 35-45 degrees. But how du I use this thermometer? Is it to stick it up where the oil is filled up when the motor is running? How does a thermometer like this look like?

Get a cheap non contact laser thermometer like this and just point the beam at the top side of the box.

At 62,000k its not really going to need replacing anyway . Very expensive for fluid so buy the cheap one . Don't be conned by Audi hype . They are made to get you back to the service center and keep you there.
If the dashboard light is flashing its because a magnetic sensor has attracted fine metal in the oil and that interferes with their operation. The only fix is to pull the black plastic computer unit from the back of the gearbox and clean the magnetic fingers.
I have been driving for 160k with mine flashing. And I didn't change the fluid just topped it up . It was down a litre . Box getting worn now I would guess . One joint on right wheel leaking a bit.
But that recommended pump is brilliant for other stuff and gets used often.
