I'm in the market for a new car and have narrowed it down to basically two cars. The Audi A4 1.8T and the BMW 325i. I have done quite a bit of research on the Audi and the following are my observations and conclusions with regard to the Audi A4 1.8T:
Pros: Quattro, brand new model, nice styling, get more options for your money.
Cons: The Audi is basically a fancy Jetta with all wheel drive and the same engine as the VW. To make matters worse, the Jetta 1.8T engine is actually MORE powerful at 180 hp than the 1.8T Audi A4 at 170hp !!!!! In my opinion, Audi has missed the boat here. Really stupid ! Audi should be the premium car !!! To make matters worse, the Audi engine is made in Hungary. Hungarians only have hot women and great food - not known for
cars...If I am paying premium dollars for a german car, I want the engine to be built in Germany.
Any comments ?????????

sounds like you already made your decision...
FYI, I was in the same position as you were... I chose audi for the following reasons... AWD, Turbo, and for 500 bucks you'll be able to make it faster than the 325i...

My dad drives a 325ix (4 wheel drive version) and i'm picking up my new '02 A4 in 2 weeks
I think the A4 is a bit bigger...but it's close (i know it's a little longer for instance)
The 325ix is a NICE ride though...of course, i feel the same about the A4!

1) The A4 is NOT a fancy a Jetta. It's not the same platform. The A4 shares it's platform with the PASSAT.
2) All of VW's 1.8Ts (excluding the non-turbo Beetle) arenow rated 180HP. WHO GIVES A ****? It's still a VW and it DOES NOT compare to the Audi at all. There's also a high chance the 2002 1.8T in the A4 is really 180HP and rated 170HP for other reasons.
3) Don't you know the transmission in BMWs are made by GM? Do you think every part in the BMW or Audi engine is made in Germany? Give me a break.
It sounds like you already made up your mind, and used a lot of useless cons to decide.

I have not made up my mind yet. I'm just a little disappointed in Audi with regard to the hp. Thanks for the responses, I enjoy hearing what other people think. That's what its all about. Create a little controversy, and see how people react and learn a little in the process.

Being that I currently own both an A4 and a Jetta I am more than qualified to comment here. Saying that the A4 is basically a fancy Jetta is not only wrong it's actually funny. The A4 is much more refined than the Jetta. The fit and finish of the A4 is easily superior.

Looks like you own the 3.0 litre. I was talking about the 1.8T. I'm sure there is a big difference between the 3.0 litre and the 1.8T jetta or passat. Thanks for your thoughts.
