That is painting with a very broad brush. I don't care if the car has a 1.8T, 3.0L, or a bunch of hamsters under the hood. All A4's are built with the same quality.

Chipping naturally aspirated engines yields very little benefits. Chipping a turbo yields a lot.
Example within same company:
Audi 1.8T chip on the 170HP engine adds ~40HP and ~90ft/lbs of torq
Audi 2.8 V6 chipping adds ~8-10HP and I'm not sure of the torq (but it's WAY less than 40HP.
The same will apply to chipping a BMW V6.

Yes, the engine is different,b ut the 3.0L has minor enhancements over the 1.8T like wood trim, power seats and few other very minor things. The cars are identical beyond some extra interior changes.
Any A4 is classier and more refined than any VW.

The confusion is caused by different spellings and pronounciations of the same utterance. Say it: B-M-W. Beemer,Bimmer, Beamer-whatever, It's all the same. It's short for BMW. New Englanders mispronounced it Bimmer. For the correct pronounciation you have to pronounce the B&M together naturally, with the W deleted in favour of the adverbial "er" (ie:jog-er) "BM"-er is pronounced bee'-mur. You have to be listening to an "expert" to believe, even for a second, two different divisions of the same company go around their respective offices saying Bimmer or Beemer depending on what part of the building they are in. Geeeezzzz! also: I have heard this same statement before, it makes no sense and reflects poorly on the person who corrects someone on it. I think it is an example of someone hearing a "rumour" or speculation and repeating it as the truth with no personal knowledge at all. When my phone rings with a call from Munich, telling me they are 2 entirely different things, I will believe it. I don't care if all your friends make the same mistake or especially if the guys at the local dealer do too. I will stand behind the analysis.
