audi custom air intake? is it possible?
i am thinking about just skipping the whole process of buying a "ram intake set-up" from one of these phonies. i think i can do it myself but the only thing that i am worried about is the heat shield. does anyone have some advice on how to pull this one out? i need to have some ideas on how to make my own heat shield and some advice or things to take into consideration when doing this. thanks for the help. i look forward to seeing some help on this at work tomorrow. peace.

let me clear this up...
...so plans are to basically buy the filter, buy the MAF filter as well and try to set up an intake on my own. I know that i will need a heatshield. If anyone has any ideas on how i can make a heat shield then that would be great. any help would be good because i am pretty sure that i dont need to drop $300 dollars on a "cold air intake" that is fabricated from a manufactuer when i can do it myself.
Please, let me know any ideas that you guys may have or any advice from previous attempts. if not, i guess that is cool and i will keep you guys posted. thanks.

i would stay stock unless you are BAT. stock has been proven time and time again. i logged before and after a heatshield and didnt have any difference in IATs. After the air gets spun through the turbo, its going to be HOT! It did "seem" to reduce underhood temps but i cant verify.
a new turbo inlet pipe would help you the most probably. i peak 1 more lb boost after installing the APR tip....

thanks for the help Christ, but i have a 3.0 so the whole turbo set up would be a little different on my car. what do you think about just taking out the whole box and replacing it with the cone filter? i would keep the air feeder to make sure it was getting enough air from outside. i am just worried about the heat shield and my car giving up due to heat exhaustion.

i will have to check it out. i guess i am just kinda to the point of not wanting to do the SAME THING to my car as everyone else. i know that any idea that i may have more likely than not has been thought up, but i just want to figure out something new. if ya know what i mean. i also dont want to put a ton of money down for an overrated manufactuered "CAI"

I'll leave alone
doing this will make a "phony" as well
you will not get any performance results out of it regardless what anyone says (we see 100+ audis at the shop every week
some of the problems we see are actually created by this aftermarket crap people use in their cars
