Default Audi's official position regarding new tire placement on the front or the rear.....

I was just reviewing new content regarding tire and wheel issues on Bentley, and Audi says this:
From Bentley:

"Audi > A4, S4 > 2002-2007
Wheels and Tires Guide
44 - Mounting wheels / tiresGeneral information on wheels and tires"

"The tires with the deeper tread should always be installed on the front wheels."

This is conflicting from the typical advice from tire dealers/retailers.

I'll stick with Audi's instructions concerning this issue.

That is all.

That makes sense to me that it should be up front

Default Probably depends on whether you know how to drive and whether you have stability control.

Both are pretty helpful while on the road with mismatched tires.

Default Those can be relevant factors, but Audi does not state any conditions for the policy as quoted.

"always" is not a term used to suggest that the advice is conditional or optional.
