Default Avant Test Drive

Just took a test drive in a new 1.8T Avant. Very nice. It had the sport package which is excellent. The s/p wheels are slightly different on the wagon but they still look very cool (some pictures were posted a few days ago, check the search). The car was very solid and tight. Worth consideration if you need a little extra room. It's still very sporty and not that much more expensive than the sedan, approximately $1000. I'd have to say that it's not a bad alternative to an S4 wagon if you'd like to pocket that extra $15K.

1.8TQM Dolphin/Ebony/Sport/Roof/Hot seats/Xenon/Bose..on order

How do you compare it to 325ixT have you tested that? Also when is the 3.0 Avant available?

Haven't driven the 325ixT but Car and Driver did a great comparasion in April 2001 of the 1.8T, 325ix, Passat 4Motion and Subaru wagons. They gave the edge to the A4. Their big complaint about the 325 was that it wasn't sporty enough. There's a good section about the benefits of winter tires along with the wagon comparasion. Also, the 3.0 Avant is out now too. You'll just have to find a dealer that has gotten one in. Seems like they started arriving at dealers this week.

I think thats because the steptronic is always tested. Also considering C320 Sportwagen but thats about $48K with sport/leather/xenon/etc. when you are all done and no manual trans.

Default Avants in the US?

Are you in the US? Our dealer didn't say to expect them until February and the Audi website says nothing about them. How's the availablilty? We want to trade up our 2000 A4 Avant for a 2002 because it's practically out of warranty (driven very heavily)

Some already delivered. Mine arrives in SF Bay Area next week. Get a broker to locate one for you?

Drove an Avant in NJ. Bernardsville Audi has a couple so I'm sure there are some Avants in the Northeast at this point. Should be more coming on a weekly basis. I notice a the large number of A4s on dealer lots around here so over the next couple of weeks inventory of Avants will surely rise.
