Default Average MPG on trip computer acting funny...

tell me if I am crazy or not...Got my 3.0 manual a couple of weeks ago, has about 700 miles on it. The average MPG on the trip display fluctuates between 13 ad 21 mpg. It doesn't stay consistent. I can't remember if this is how it was with my 2001. Does this seem normal? I figured after about 700 miles, the MPG would be averaging off.

Default There are two modes for MPG - an averaged and a current - try flipping to the averaged mode (more)

It's the one with the null symbol next to it (0 with a slash through it).

(also, there are two trip computers - #1 is the "current trip" and #2 is the running total)

Default are you looking at trip 1 or trip 2?

trip one is the current trip - usually resets after the car has been off, so if it fluctuating, it might be that it doesn't have that much data to average.

trip 2 only resets when you reset it, so you can have average data for the whole trip if you please, whereas trip 1 would show you one leg of a trip...

Default Ah, so you mean on some trips it's reading a low value (13) and other trips it's reading high (more)

value (20)? But, you expect it to be keeping a consistent number from trip to trip, averaged over the 700 miles?

Then it's trip 1 versus trip 2... Wrong computer.
