Default B5 S4 vs B6 S4 brakes: How do they compare?

Performance wise, as in stopping distance and feel...how do these compare?

How is the price difference? Worth the extra cost for the B6 setup?

Default Stopping distance is more directly related to the pad

That said, B5 S4 brakes are two piston, four pads per side with 12.6" rotors. B6 S4 brakes are two piston with (I believe) two pads per side and 13.6" rotors. B6 S4 brakes will also cost more than the B5 counterpart. You could have a B5 S4 setup with stock pads and a bone stock A4 setup with Hawk HP+ pads (or something along those lines) and the stock setup will stop quicker.

Wow really? The pad makes that much of a difference?

Default The pad makes a LOT of difference

But having more leverage (larger rotors) and more clamping force (more pistons) plays a role too. The best bang for your buck is better pads.

B6S4 is a single piston.

Default To reduce stopping distances

Get new tires. These are the quickest way to shorten a single stop.

If you're looking at repeatedly performing consistant stops then bigger brakes and better pads are in order.

Both of the sets you mention add a significant amount of unsprung weight, which hurts acceleration, stopping, and the performance of your suspension. On the plus side, their larger rotors, calipers, and piston area will help to marginally shorten braking distance, but offer a bit more fade resistance for repeated consistency.

Default Repeated consistency isn't really what my goal is...the goal is to stop faster in an emergency...

So...tires and pads would help that the most? Even more then say a B5 S4 upgrade?

Most definitely. BBK's are mostly for fade reduction (and on show cars, looks)
