Hey I just picked up a set of bi-xenon projectors so I will no longer need my high beams. I wanted to do something a little different and I haven't found anyone who has done it yet. I would like to wire the high beams to act as daytime running lights. I read a tech article on the site but it was for the B5 chassis and I am pretty sure it was a non-US spec car. I do not mind rewiring the headlights or adding an additional set of wires into the headlights. I would like to set it up so that when I turn the high beams on the new projectors work as the highs but have the old halogen high beams work when the lights are off. Please help me with this.

Just as a side note I did not purchase bi-xenon housings. They are the factory D1S housings but I am swapping out the projectors themselves. The new projectors have pigtails to connect to the hold high beam wires. I would ideally like to keep it like that and run separate wires.

Questions and opinions:
1) Why do you think you won't need high beams? I have factory xenons and use the high beams quite often.
2) I wouldn't touch the headlight wiring (or any other wiring for that matter) without being absolutely sure I knew what I was doing and only if I felt comfortable with wire harness modifications (which I don't). You could end up with a rat's nest of wiring and nono functioning headlights.
3) I believe there is a way to program the headlights as DRLs (low intensity low beams) via VAGCOM to satisfy Canadian DOT laws. Maybe my neighbors to the North that are active on the forum can confirm or refute this. This is how I would go if I wanted DRLs.

I dont need the high beam function in the stock housing anymore because the new projectors im putting in have the high beam function in them and I have messed with the audis wires often so that wouldn't be an issue. I just don't know anyone in Rhode Island with a vagcom to convert the headlight to bi-xenon. You will understand what I mean by bi-xenon when you look at this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12Znz1zvuYM

B6's in Canada use the foglights as the DRL. I have factory bi-xenon on my 2005 B6 3.0 and the high beams use the H7 halogen bulb. You will need to rewire and tie into that foglight circuit.
