Ok B6 column readers! Let me know what you think of the B6 vs. B7. What are the pros cons of each in your opinion?
I once owned a '96 A4 12v and have missed it ever since I sold it... now I want to come back to Audi but am not sure which is body/year is better and I'm partial to the B6 styling and ok with buying a lightly used vehicle... let me know what YOU think of the differences between the two versions!
current car... BMW Z4 (never buy one, it sucks)

i think the new style is a little off, but i would take it in a heartbeat over my b6 because of the more balanced weight distribution due to the more rearward placement of the new powerplants.
but if cost is an issue, you might want to consider a used a4. still a great car.
b7
pros - more potent powerplants, better weight dist. (allowing for more composed handling and agility in the twisties)
cons - styling (my opinions)
b6
pros - styling
cons - heavy front end
other than that, i would say the two cars are basically the same...which is why some say that the b7 is more a b6.5.

..never really been a fan of the face lifted b7...BUT i do like the 2.0T in the B7 and I do not like buying used cars. So if I had to choose now id end up going with a new B7.

The 2.0T engine rocks hard. With the 6 speed tip, the car was a real treat. The B7 has that variable steering which was strange but once I realized the feel at speed was much better than my regular B6, I loved it.
Kicker- the B7 non-sport q-tip was over $35k. My 2002 B6 CPO manual quattro was under $20k.
That $15k can buy alot of mods!

When comparing engines however, the 2.0T wins outright. There really is no comparison. Audi under rates the HP numbers by about 25 HP which means the the 2.0T is actually putting down ~225HP as opposed to the 200.

I think with every evolution of the A4, they loose that crucial 80's look that I love so much. I decided to buy one of the last B6's even when the new B7 was out.
I admit that the 2.0 is a much superior engine over the 1.8, however. If you decide on a B6 or B5 platform, your guranteed to have one of the last boxy style Audi's....especially the wagon : )
