Excerpt from Audi.co.uk website describing quattro safety in the new B7.
"You can enjoy our patented quattro system on the A4 Avant, with its second-generation Haldex clutch, delivering optimum torque distribution to give you the most involving, sure and safe ride possible."
The B7 S4 is a Torsen system.

that won't be changing from B6 to B7...wouldn't make sense for Audi to reengineer the B7 platform for haldex use in one car...too costly with no return on investment

due to the transverse mounting of the engine in the TT, a Torsen system won't fit, so they use haldex...all the other cars which have their engines mounted longtitudinally use the Torsen system...Volvo does use Haldex, and the dealer was partially correct in saying that Audi uses Haldex...but they weren't entirely correct...hope that clarifies things a bit

I emailed the Haldex rep this morning about this:
**My question:**
"Will Haldex work in applications with longitudinally-mounted engines and AWD? Or is it just for applications with transversely-mounted engines?"
**Haldex North American Rep's Reply:**
"Hi Tim
The Haldex AWD is possible to use for several designs but at this moment we do not have any vehicles with longitudinally mounted engines.
Best Regards,
Mats"
So it is possible, though there are no current applications.

I have followed-up this reply with a question about the B7 platform cars:
"Audi has indicated in press releases that
they are releasing the B7-platform A4 quattro with Haldex, rather than
the traditional Torsen. I believe this is public info, but is it
correct?"
Will keep you posted.
