Bad Window Regulator or Motor?
Anyone know how to tell which of the driver's window *regulator* or *motor* has gone bad?
My driver's side window will not respond to the driver's window switch.
However, all passenger windows can be opened or closed both by the driver's window switch panel, and the individual window switches on the passenger doors.
When I try to open/close the driver's window, there is absolutely no motor sound (bad motor?). I also noticed that recently the driver's window sounded a bit 'grindy' going up/down (bad regulator?)
I doubt it's the window control module (circuit board) since it's electronic and all the other windows work.
What do y'all think? The motor?

Sounds like possibly both. My regulator cable was frayed and it made a grinding noise when the window was rolled up or down. Eventually it got stuck but you could still hear the motor click when I used the switch. I replaced the regulator and fixed the problem.

Thanks tjorden. I've heard from some other folks that they didn't hear anything, and only replace the regulator to fix it (maybe it was stuck so firmly the motor couldn't move?). Well, gotta fix this soon...drive-throughs suck when your driver's window doesn't go down! :P

You can remove the door card fairly easily and then check the motor and the regulator. If I had to guess from what you described, the regulator failed and then stressed the motor too much and it too is failed. Possibly just a bad motor but your griding noise concerns me.
Either way, we have replacement window motors and regulators available here.
EDIT: here is a diy for the door card removal of a b5, should be pretty close for b6.
