I've been mulling over the various Avants for our next family hauler. Wife likes the B6 look over the B5 and B7. Personally I like the look of the S6 Avant(2003) best. OK, we're shallow, we have to like the way the car looks. The final determinant is the car's fun factor on the track. I have another track car, so the Avant would be a dual purpose car.
Here's some basic data:
2002-2003 S6 Avant
340HP/310lb-ft V8 0-60 6.5 1/4 mi 14.5
4024lbs 60/40 wt distrib
5sp tip
B6 S4 Avant
340HP/302lb-ft V8 0-60 5.4 1/4 mi 13.8
3936lbs 52/48 wt distrib
6sp manual
B6 A4 1.8T Avant
170HP/166lb-ft 0-60 8.1 1/4 mi 16.5
3516lbs 56/44 wt distrib
5sp manual
Note: for the purposes of the comparison the 1.8T would be spec'd to Steve Sherwood's B6 "Project Car," -- PSS9s, larger rear antisway, larger injectors, GIAC chip on race gas program...also throw in a bigger IC.
I have a first pick in my head, but I want to see what everyone else thinks first.
Thx,

than I would go for the A4...
It'll be more fun and gratifying that you've made one MoFu fast/fun machine.

on the track. Wish I'd known that you had it at T'hill. The appeal of the 1.8T v the S4 is the over 400lb wt differential. W/ you PSS9s slapped on plus the lower wt, seems like the 1.8T can have potentially superior handling characteristics.
Did you find that to be true w/ you proj car in comparison to the B5 S$ avant?
W/ the chip, the injectors, exhaust did you feel you had enough grunt, for instance coming up the hill T7-9?
Any conjecture as to lap time difference, at say T'hill CCW, between your "Project car" on R compounds v the B6 S4 Avant on R compounds?

yes I say that pix in some other thread. Love the more aggressive wheel wells. On a related note, it would very very nice to have a B5 RS4 Avant imported and DOT certified for the street. I haven't looked into it, but I'd guess to get something like that done, that for the same money one would be better off just getting an 06 RS4. I WANT ONE OF THOSE TOO DANGIT.
