after a spirited drive today I started to smell a faint oder. I was about 2 min from my apartment so I just drove there and parked the car. I saw some white smoke coming out from under the hood, so immediately I hit the latch and carefully open up the hood. The stench was terrible, smelled like burning plastic. I sniff arround and detect that it is coming from the turbo, on the intake side. It looks like something melted or dripped onto the turbo and it heats up when the turbo gets hot. Any clue what it could be? The car is running fine and I was thinking of driving it, getting the turbo hot and letting it all burn off. Bad idea?

i ran into a heavy duty plastic bag once and it melted onto my thermal exhaust--pretty crusty stuff--stinky too. couldn't really scrape it out. still have stuff under there--good thing it was in the cneter and not the muffler. wouldn't look good.

try scraping off the burnt "tar" while it's hot and see if you get it again

Maybe one came loose (I'm missing at least 2) and fell on the turbo.

Otherwise, perhaps your trunk monkey got confused and crawled into the wrong end of the car ;^)
