bmw 325 vs 1.8t!?A arghh edge bmw?
Went to both garage today, audi sales ppl didn't even appraoch us although we much prefer the audi. Went to BM and they came after a while and offered good conversation. Then they even offered test drive even though it was closing in 10 mins, the dealer took time and stayed w us after his office hours. didn't get to drive audi and wanted reviews, plesase also if you drove both, let me know how they compare and the prices which you got yours for. BM seems to have nice engine and v. gd driver car. I'm looking at base models and manual. For those that tried BM, please quote what pirces they offered and what spec levels. Still haven't made up mind!!!
thanks

Be sure to drive the A4 w/sport...
and a test drive with some turns. I've driven the 3,5, 7, and Z cars from BMW, and I'm very impressed with my A4. The 3s have the closest feel, but subjectively, my Audi drives more tight and nimble.
I don't have current prices on the BMWs--good luck on your search

Re: bmw 325 vs 1.8t!?A arghh edge bmw?
I also was considering the BMW 325 and 1.8T. But I ended up ordering a 1.8T Quattro. The price was not a factor because it was very similar. BMW indeed had a very nice V6 engine and more power. But I thought the Audi had the better interior and also had Quattro. Well... it look me a while to decide which car..

I was deciding between the two...
initially i put down the deposit for the 325it wagon because it has a lot higher residual, (i am leasing the car), and you get a more expensive car for the same payment. It also a lot better low end torque coz the bigger engine and extra 2 cylinders. Power delivery is also smoother.
however, i canceled the order and decided to go for the A4 after 2 days. I just feel the design of the bmw is getting old. It's probably because I've sit in way too many bmw 3 series and just getting tired of the inteior, And I dont really like the facelifted front end as well.
For the audi, i likes the clean lines and interior feels a lot less messy. handling wise, i think the bmw is more fun but Audi is not far behind. And Quattro had saved me numerous times when i was young and stupid. Besides, it's bmw everywhere the place i live.
A4 3.0 was at my top of list, but i decided that i want to save that extra CAD$100 a month and just get the 1.8T. Now i just cant wait till it comes. My bodykit and wheels is already here waiting for my polar white avant..........

A4 wins... unless engine is your top priority
I've driven both the '02 325i and the A4 1.8T. If you compare stock, unmodified engines, BMW wins. Their 6-cylinder engine is simply awesome and is in a class by itself.
In terms of steering, ride-quality, interior, and standard equipment, I'd say that A4 beats the 325i.

I currently drive a 1999 323i Sport Package 3. Fantastic car! However I just sold it and have decided to go with the A4. Interior/exterioir design, excellent 4 cylinder engine and Quattro convinced me over a 2002 325.
Good luck.
Good luck.

My wife and I were looking at the same choice...
The BMW inline 6 was the only real plus. The fit, finish, extras (availability/cost) were minuses compared to the A4. The A4 handled better (the BMW is a harsher ride) even with the stock suspension (IMHO, not necessarily others). It's a much nicer look and, in Los Angeles, BMW's are about as common as Hondas (both great cars in their niches). The 1.8T provides economy and power (especially once chipped - then it has more power than the BMW 6 which is fairly expensive to mod). The CVT gives the best of both worlds and is not available on the BMW (although it doesn't get that downshift engine/rpm drop a manual does).
In the end, my wife and I each bought an A4 1.8T CVT and are happily waiting the 3 to 4 months to get the cars WE want.
TJMOICBW (or yours different).

Avant vs. 325iT,(Wagon) went with the bimmer
Pricewise the 325iT was between 1.8T Avant and 3.0 Avant, but closer to the 3.0.
Reasons:
-I6 is very nice
-gas mileage was close to 1.8T better then 3.0.
-About 250-400 lbs lighter then Avants.
-5-speed was better then 5-speed in 1.8T, way better then 6-speed in 3.0
-Live in Socal so dont care about AWD, rather get RWD.
-ALready have a 1.8T A4 sedan not interested in getting same engine again and dont want to deal with chip/warrenty again.
