That way there is no space robbing. My car is at the stereo shop getting one custom made (I wasn't up for that challenge, I lack the tablesaw and skill in that department). There is an A4 sedan out there that has it done that I've seen before. I can post you the link to his setup if you want me to.
You can hide the amps in the other rear wheel well. So the only space you'll be robbed from is the two little side pockets on either side. I think that is acceptable loss for better sound. I would not sacrifice my trunk space either.

I think the Bose for $600 is a rip, don't take me wrong, but c'mon now! For $600 you might be able to get a decent sub with a box and an amp, and maybe replace the front stage with some medium quality speakers (don't even think about Focals)

The trunk is decent sized but if any sub box or amp takes some space, then whatever is left makes it even more tough to squeeze in anything large.
So, for some avg. stereo listeners (like me), I think BOSE is worth the upgrade. I am not an audiophile.

I mounted my amps where the original sub was located so they're hidden and you can't even tell they're there.
My car is at the stereo shop to make a custom box for me (I wasn'tup for the challenge) that will go into the other side and hide my sub.
Once it'll be all said and done, you won't even be able to tell that I have anything in my trunk that was not put in there at the factory.
This is how the amps are hidden

This is where the sub will go (I should have pictures tonight of the final product)

The Sedan is a tad different, but the same principle can be applied there too. It's all about the install and how you want it done!

and you can have a custom box built that fits in the rear driver side corner of the trunk. Actuall, JL might already have one available, but I'd prefer to build my own so I can pick the sub of my choice. To have a shop do it plan to spend $150ish for the enclosure alone plus the price of the sub. With some patience and the help of some of us here you could build it yourself for under $50.

We shall see how much the final product will cost, but it's not only MDF, they're actually framing the outside from 1/2" MDF then adding fiberglass on the inside of it for strength.
I'll post pics tonight!
