Brake booster problems after plenum drain recall service done?

I had the recall service done on my 02 A4 1.8T in sept 07. Today I just started getting the ebrake warning light and beeping while driving. I checked the brake fluid level and it's fine so I have a really bad feeling about this. There is definitely a vacuum leak as the pedal turns hard after a few pushes with the car off. I can hear the air escaping with each push.
Has anyone had a booster fail after getting the recall service done or is this more likely just a simple hose leak, etc? If it is the brake booster, will I have a claim to get it fixed at Audi's cost even though the car is well out of warranty? How safe is it to drive to get it serviced?

reserviour or the ebrake switch, has nothing to do with the booster. Try popping the screen out & see if the floater inside got stuck.
