Forgive my ignorance. What is the procedural difference between brake bleeding vs brake fluid change. Besides the fact that during the change the entire volume is replaced.
Is a VAG-com tool required for brake fluid change on '02 1.8TQ,and finaly is the Motive Bleeder adequate for the job.
Thanks

I suck the res out with a turkey baster and refill it, so 100% clean fluid goes through the system. I just crack the bleeder bolts and let it flow till clear, am I missing something? The only way to get the whole system 100% fresh is if the caliper bore is cleared too. I refuse to push that dirty fluid back through the system, so I crack the bleeder bolt and open the caliper so it goes directly out. No need to cycle the ABS.

suck the old fluid out of the resivoir before you start, i just used 1 liter of fluid (pentosin super dot4) in the power bleeder last weekend to flush the whole system. Worked great. Just make sure you top off the resivoir after you remove the power bleeder.

The master cylinder bore wears and the seals conform to it. Pumping moves the seals through "unusual" areas of the bore and wears them down. Don't do it that way, big problems.

If you are changing the fluid out in its entirety, then you should use the VAG and cycle the ABS pump to fully remove all the old fluid from the system.
I had this done when I changed out from stock to Motul 600 fluid. I wanted only one type of fluid in the entire brake system. I took the car to the dealer and paid them $100 to fully and completely flush the system. Their procedure calls for doing it twice to ensure that all the old fluid is out. Their procedure also cycles the ABS pump for about 10 seconds too.

Unless you want two different types of fluids in the system, that is the only way. Why else would VW/Audi have the VAG procedure to cycle the ABS pump in the first place? It obviously serves some purpose.
