Default If you're pads are okay then check your fluid level. Could be just low fluid...

but that can be caused if your pistons in the calipers have to travel a further distance due to rotor/pad wear.

Default the reason the light is showing up is because...

either
A) the brake pads are worn in the front or
B) something is wrong with the brake pad sensor and it is giving you a warning when it should not.
The light will not turn off by any sort of reset. It can only be fixed if you rig the sensor or change your pads.

The sensor is located on the actual brake pad itself. You DO NOT have to get OEM pads... some aftermarket brake pads have sensors on them as well. By getting pads with sensors, your light will not show up anymore.

the ebrake light would be the red light that is on the right side that comes on when you use the ebrake right?

Default Was it a circle with an exclamation point in it or did it say "BRAKE"?

The "BRAKE" telltale means you have an issue with your brake system like I stated before.

If it was the circle icon then it's not a brake system error from what I can tell.

http://www.audiusa.com/common/myaudiManualsPdf/myaudiQRG_A4_all_2002_en.pdf
