Default brake questions

I was told by audi service that I need new rear brakes. I was quoted $410 for the pad and rotors. My questions are do I have to replace the rotors too? Why do german cars require replacing the rotors where as Japanese cars only requires changing the pads? If I need to change the rotors too, should I purchase aftermarket ventilated rotors and low brake dust pad? are they better than factory? any brand suggestions? thanks guys!

$410 must be 2X list price! You should be able to get rear rotors and high end pads for $150 total.

here are a couple of sites i have gotten parts from. I like ceramic pads.

make sure you get the correct rotors for your car.

Rotors wear out on all cars. Go to independent mechanic. You will save $$$. Ask them to quote labor only if you want to buy your own parts. Your dealer probably charges $130/hr for 2 hours for rear brakes + parts.

Default OK to have ventilated rotors on rear and stock brakes in the front?

if I decide to go aftermarket in the back and leave the front brakes audi stock? is this going to affect the brake behavior of my car?

Yeah you should replace new rotors with pads. With new parts from from an aftermarket dealer + installation should be less than 400bucks!
