Note to Ralphie: No I didn't have an S4 previuosly, maybe soon though.
Currently I have 1200 miles on the car and it loosened up substantially after about 850-900 miles. This caused a change in driving styles from when I first bought the car because now it is more willing to move to speed and a jump in the RPMs which make me now be smoother with my foot on the accellerator. Breakin was difficult on this car so I tried my best. The car basically doesn't let you get to 5000-6000 RPMs in normal auto mode because that is not the most efficient way to get you to speed. So to keep the RPMs under 3000 and then under 4000 wasn't so bad. The problem came in with varying the RPMs. Becuase the car finds the most efficient RPM for speed and accelleration during cruising speed, RPMs don't vary much unless speed is incresed or decreased by atleast 10 MPH. This is where the autostick came in handy. I was surprised by the amount of engine breaking on the autostick, mostly only in 2nd "gear" but sometimes in 3rd. Also in manual mode I was surprised to find out (after thinking about it, it made sense) that when in cruise control you can still change "gears" and keep the same speed. This came in handy when on highway or open road with turns in it. I was able to vary the RPMs but keep a constant speed. Don't know if the other Tiptronics work that way on Quattro though. The car has been good to me, no problems so far.

I liked the braking (during a test drive). It makes sense since there is no torque converter. It has two clutches (as I have read) and the transmission can get a very high (low) gear setting to get the torque multiplication required to get going. I am really pumped about this transmission but bummed due to lack of Quattro. I am really thinking about a 2-3 year lease or Premier Purchase to get into a new one while waiting on the CVT/Quattro combination. Maybe CVT II will be out in a few years allowing more power from the 3.0....
