Default Brief summary of turbo options for the 1.8T

Here's a brief summary of what I've gathered about some of the turbo upgrade options available to us. If you have any factual additions or corrections, please post. Power numbers are from tuners or board discussions. (When I use the word hardware, I mean all hoses, clamps, etc needed for the swap).

Turbo Kits:
*Ecode K04: 91 octane, Revo software: 225bhp/235lb/ft, hardware, injectors, plugs, $1950.

*Ecode E05: 91 octane, Revo software: 235bhp/275lb/ft, hardware, injectors, plugs, $2100.

*Greedspeed K04: Neuspeed software, no #s given (est. 260bhp w/ dual IC, exhaust, hi-flow cat), hardware, injectors, plugs. $1950.

*Greedspeed E05: Neuspeed software, no #s given (est. 275bhp w/ dual IC, exhaust, hi-flow cat), hardware, injectors, plugs. $2150.

*Garrett GT28R (ball bearing): software unknown, 265bhp/265lb/ft. Hardware, fuel pressure regulator, adaptors, motor mount bracket. $2050.

*PES T-28: PES/GIAC software, 270bhp/275lb/ft. Hardware, manifold, intake. $3,700.

Default You may now ad to this, MTM Stage III, K04 kit. Officially released and on a B6...

More info to follow this week, but I just drove back tonight from the install. Prices and specs will follow this week. This kit is a blast to drive. It is a noticable improvement over Stage II (215hp and 254lb/ft). It will deliver "more than 240 horsepower". BTW, the number given as estimates by Greedspeed appear a bit optimistic to say the least.

Default Thanks, good to know. You'll note those numbers are w/ an exhaust, hiflow cat and dual ICs (m)

Also, IIRC, those numbers are actually from one of Universo's posts in which he cited a conversation w/ Greedspeed, not official numbers.

Default Yup, definitely not solid numbers regardless of exhaust and intercoolers...

I have both on my car and cats and intercoolers will not add 30-45hp on top of a K04 kit. More realistic would be an additional 20hp. I have not noticed a horepower gain at all from my twin intercoolers, nor did I expect to. What I did notice is that I am able to hold my horsepower over intense driving and in warmer weather, when prior to the twins the engine was easily heat soaked. Just my opinion. I hope the numbers prove to be true, but I am a bit doubtful.

bhp=crankshaft horsepower, whp=horsepower measured at the wheels (takes into account drivetrain loss

28% drivetrain loss for quattro is a general number many agree upon. Not exact at all.

Default I think when people refer to hp gains from ICs, they mean hp maintained, not peak gains on a cool...

engine, which is really the whole point, because it doesn't matter how much power your engine makes if it can't keep up that level of output during hard running. Nevertheless, I'm quite prepared to believe that those gains are a bit optimistic, especially if you have firsthand experience.
