Default Brighter Xenon Lights?

I have noticed, the xenon lights on my A4 are much dimmer than the ones on other brands of cars. I was wondering if just changing to a hotter bulb would increase output? Is there anything else that could be done?

Thanks

Are your xenons OEM or aftermarket?

IIRC about 4300 degrees is the maximum light output. Hotter gets you bluer and less useful light output.

Are your bulbs 35w or 55w?

Maybe they're just old bulbs?

Change out the bulbs for new ones and see if that makes any difference. If not then you'll just have to accept your HIDs as they are.

Well, I am not even sure that they are Xenon lights yet. Also, if they are then they are 35watt and not 55watt so that may be something that I could pursue too.

If they are xenon, How many hours have the lamps been on? They will dim over time. The Osram published values for my A4's D1S lamps say that at 3000 hours, 63.2% will have failed.

Xenon lamps have a seperate driver to operate the lamp. It will probably only work with a 35 watt lamp. The limited info I've found on the drivers indicate that they have a typical life of 2000 hours.

Please be careful around xenon lamps, they can be driven at more than 20,000 volts.

It indeed sounds like you have a dying bulb. Check what kind of bulb you currently have and consider upgrading your bulb intensity. We have many bulbs to choose from, including the standard D1S replacement bulb.
