I went to fold in my mirror so I could squeeze by without bumping into the neighboring car with my gym bag when I heard a loud crack!
After disassembling the mirror housing I found that the metal post on which the entire housing pivots corroded at the top. The c-clip that pre-loads the spring no longer has a groove to fit in and I can't find anyone carrying this post. I also am not sure how to disassemble the mounting bracket to get to the post itself.
Hoping someone could help me out with bentley diagrams and/or part numbers. I have heated non-folding mirrors on a 2002 A4.
Thank you kindly!

Dealership here in Chandler, AZ told me I'd have to buy a whole new mirror base (w/motor) just to replace the post. I wasn't too surprised... Their price was dealership high, so I asked for the part number and the attendant said they couldn't "give me that information". I understand that they should protect their business, but I service my car there and have purchased several parts from them before.
That kind of stuff always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Luckily genuinevwaudiparts.com and vagcat.com have the same diagram they showed me at the dealership. Now I don't feel bad taking my business elsewhere, especially when the part costs less than half of what the dealership wants.
