Default Buying a car and seeking advice.

I have recently decided to buy an Audi A4 1.8t as my car. Right now, I am looking at an used 2002 B6 A4.

This car has 82k miles on and the private seller is asking 11k for the vehicle.

I am wondering if this is a good buy? And how long the car will run till?

The key features that stand out are the 6 disk CD changer and the sports package on the car.

Also, as a side notice. The past owner has kept the car mainted exceptionally well. The car is nearly flawless.

Default The car will easily do 200K provided you maintain it properly.

Make sure that the oil has been changed every 5k miles. Also at 82K the t-belt/water pump have to be changed.

Default Go for it....

sounds like a good price to me. Like Tgr said, take care of the timing belt, water pump and tensioner ASAP. There have been premature failures (Audi originally recommended replacement at 120k).

Expect some maintenance items to need attention, things like hoses, vacuum lines, coilpacks, window regulators, etc have a finite life and tend to break.

If you can do some wrenching yourself, you'll be much happier with the cost of maintaining the car. It would be wise to pickup a VAGCOM and a Bentley manual so you can diagnose and fix issues that may arise.

Another option is to find a local mechanic that knows our cars. Ask on your local forum.

So what I'm getting is that I should replace the timing belt/water pumps.

Any idea how much that will cost?

$800-1000 at a local independent shop, $1500-1700 at the dealer.
