Default Buying a used chip - opinions please

I'm about to buy a used GIAC chip, and I am wondering whether you guys (the experts) think this is a good idea. Are there any problems associated with used chips? Should I go ahead and do it, or get a new one? (saving over 200 bucks getting it used)

he's not swapping ECUs, just installing a chip previously used in an identical model ECU
