Can anyone confirm the "Reserve" Gas Tank Capacity of 2.1g as listed in the manual...

and what it really means.
I was running close to fumes today, as I atleast thought...My onboard comp read less than 5 mi till empty...
But when I filled up I could only get 15 or so gallons in...Manual say 17 and some change w/ 2.1 reserve...
WTF is does reserve mean??? Is there really a reserve tank for the protection of the fuel injection system of some sort...
Does that mean I could effectively go, lets say another 40 miles (20 mpg). If so, why does the doesn't the onboard comp. just tell it like it is. Puzzling?

1) They add a little moron factor so you can hit zero and not instantly stop.
2) Plus, don't forget about tilt and slosh due to vehicle dynamics. Imagine 1 gallon across the bottom of that big tank. Probably not a problem on level ground.
But what if you drove 10 miles up a mountain? That gas would go towards the back of the tank and you may run out even though you have gas in there.
Or imaging driving in hard circles. YOu will have some gas in that tank sloshed up against one side that is unavailble to the fuel pump.
0 miles left on the computer may indicate the tank limit at which you can still drive the vehicle through its normal tilt angles and G loading.
FYI...I got mine down to 5 miles left, and the car had about 1.2 gals left once I filled and calculated the differnece from the book value.
