Default Canadian Question: Should tail lights be on, eh?

We use the fog lights as daytime running lights here, but do the side markers and tail lights stay on all the time the car is running?

There is a sensor on the dash, is that supposed to turn on the tail lights as light fades?

The side marker symbol on the dash is on all the time, and it's slightly annoying. I don't think it should tell me when Daytime Running Lights are on, only when I turn on the parking or headlights.

I am only slightly concerned about bulb life, and how silly it looks to have the tail lights lit during bright daylight.

Is this something for the dealer to program?

Default Uhm, I'm pretty sure that by default the day time running lights are off, if that's even an option..

I know here in the US there are NO daytime lights of anykind. To turn them on, you have to switch on the light switch, and by default the driving/fog lights only come on when the switch is all the way on (headlights on) and pulled out one notch (or two, that does the rear fog too.)

The little light on the dash by the light switch is always on though, incase youd drive through a tunnel or it suddenly becomes dark, you can find the switch.

Not sure if they did something different for you kanucks, eh

Default mine too...My A4 is also Canadian spec.

I guess the tail lights and sidemarkers are supposed to be on all the time in Canada. And the side marker symbol on dash is on all the time in my A4. I was also wondering if it can be reprogrammed.

The other Canadian thing (or European) that kinda bothers me is that the date comes before the month on the date display.
Can it be reprogrammed?

Default

That sensor on top of the dash in the middle is a sun sensor for the climate control.

Default Same deal with the year 2000 cars, only without the dash symbol.

I had to yank a relay to stop the tail and side markers from running all the time.

Default The light on the dash is to remind you that your DRLs are on...

and not your headlights. So, that you remember to turn your headlights on when it's dark. This is because, unlike most other cars, the instrument lights go on with the DRLs.

When I said the light on the dash, I meant the light on the instrument panel, not the one by the switch. This means that there is always a symbol in the warning section of the instrument panel that is on.
