Default It doesn't outshift a human, read an article in one of the magazines

Forgot what it was Motortrend or Caranddriver or one of those. Manual is still faster but it wasn't behind by much. Main thing is convenience.

You sure it was about SMG II...the newer version is much quicker than the original

I'd miss my clutch pedal...but I suspect that one day I'll own a CVT/SMG...techno-nut side of me

Default Doh! I have the article you're talking about in my July C&D. Question their reasoning though...

because they compared the SMG II version against their "long-term" M3.

Long-term cars always accelerate faster than when new. They pulled off a 0-60 in 4.8 secs. using SMG II Manual Mode.

They beat this by 0.3 seconds using their long-term regularly clutched M3.

I don't recall anyone ever pulling off a 4.5 sec 0-60 when the M3 was brand new, so I can only conclude that their long-term car has been broken-in very well

The best time I've heard so far was 4.6 secs. for an M3 SMG II, but I can't remember which mag did this.

Default It's made by Getrag, just exclusive to BMW right now, hence the M in the middle of the name

ZF makes a sequential tranny, I'm sure you'll see it in an Audi any day now, or the S"M"G II box.

Not exactly. The 3 series has SMG also, but it's the old version, so the "M" has kinda lost it's way

Default I didnt know 3 has SMG, I thought the auto box was just a standard step/tiptronic style

Not a clutchless manual?
