Default It is cool, IMO...my girlfriend's still pissed at me for buying a car that she can't drive >:o)

Then again, that probably IS a good thing, now that I think about it ;-)

You are correct. SMG is available on non-M e46 only in Europe.

Default SAAB had the first production transmission based on manual trans w/ servo clutch, about 5 years ago.

That I am aware of.

Default Actually, Ferrari was the first to put one in a production car. Saab offered a clutchless manual...

a few years later, but it differs by the fact that it does not offer a full automatic mode.

Alfa, BMW, and Ferrari are the only brands that I know of, offering a manual transmission, that can be shifted automatically, if the driver so chooses.

Some additional history...the first CVT in a production car was actually the Subaru Justy (not the Honda Civic, which I have often heard).
